As Maine's highest rated summer camp and the location of the hit Disney Channel TV show "Bug Juice: My Adventures at Camp", the days at Wazi are just packed! Wazi has six activity periods a day and more than 30 activities to choose from in a unique "Kid's Choice" program. We have all the camp classics like archery, athletics, performing arts (a full musical every four weeks), visual arts, horseback riding, canoeing, water skiing and sailing, as well as new adventures like “the blob”, high ropes, adventure park, and a zip line. And that’s just getting started. Our program is rare in that campers always get the activities they pick and are always encouraged to try new things.

Even with all this, who we are is more important than what we have. Wazi is not a country club. We’re not trying to be posh, but we’re not survivalist either (yes, we have bathrooms and running water in our cabins). Our philosophy is progressive in many ways, like appreciating kids of all kinds, and old-school in others, which is why no one gets a medal here for coming in 15th place. Honors are fairly earned, sportsmanship stands above winning, adventure is promoted, friends take care of each other, and staff truly cares.

A Typical Day
Camp Waziyatah has a true “Kid’s Choice” program where kids ALWAYS get the activities they pick. That’s is unusual for summer camps, most of which cap enrollment in activities based on numbers. At Wazi, that just doesn’t happen.

Kids choose activities weekly from a grid of choices, and twice a week we have “Otter Days” where we do all-camp events. These include our legendary Harry Potter-themed day “The Potter Cup” or the hilarious “Opposite Day”, and more. Daily activities repeat throughout the week so kids can work on skills, and each day has a “daily choice” where campers can try out new things before choosing activities again the following week. It’s a great program that gives the power to choose, but also nudges them gently out of their comfort zone to try new things.

Cabin Life
We start bonding the moment kids arrive, both with their cabin mates and with the entire camp community. Kids are welcomed with happy, smiling counselors and new friends and already, our no-clique atmosphere is in place. For example: your camper’s name will already be on his or her bed on arrival day so no kids from previous summers make a division in the cabin by puttin all their beds in one corner of the cabin. Every night, cabins do a “huddle up” where each camper can speak and become closer to his or her cabin mates. It’s a beautiful and heartfelt time and it is integral to cabin life.

Food
Every day, Wazi serves three hot meals and an afternoon snack for hungry campers. Every meal has vegetarian options and an endless salad bar. Wazi is nut-aware, so please call us if you have any questions about food allergies, picky eaters, or dietary restrictions. There’s no need for soda, candy or junk food because we bake our own pastries, breads and yummy desserts. Every camper knows there’s always something good to eat at Wazi!

Health
Wazi goes above and beyond even the strict standards of safety set by the American Camp Association, by which we are accredited. Wazi maintains a health center with full time Registered Nurses and doctors who are on the job 24/7. We understand the trust parents put in us and we take safety seriously.
