Camp Wa-Klo for Girls is the ultimate summer camp experience where a girl makes friendships for life. At Wa-Klo, a girl can zip down the zip line, hike a mountain, and shoot archery all in one day! We offer the full camp experience during our 7 week session. Campers can also choose to come for a mini-camp experience with our 4 and 3 week sessions. Wa-Klo is steeped in tradition, a camp that is over 80 years old! Your daughter will experience Council Fire, Reflections, Olympics, and many more of our longstanding traditions.

Camp Wa-Klo empowers a girl to be confident, independent, and have a voice. Throughout her time maneuvering through social situations in her cabin, choosing what new activities she wants to try, and speaking in front of the camp community during Reflections, there will be ample opportunities for your daughter to make connections and grow!

Before your daughter steps foot on Pine Drive, she will already feel like a Wa-Klo girl! Tammy, our director, visits every family and does video chats with those she cannot meet to make sure she knows every girl before the summer begins! Tammy also video chats with returning families because as we know, a lot can change in the course of a school year.

Not only will your daughter be a part of the Wa-Klo family, you will as well. After your daughter arrives at camp, you can expect a phone call from Tammy updating you on how her first day went. You’ll hear how activities have been, how your daughter is adjusting to camp life, and how she is loving her cabin.

Throughout her time at Wa-Klo, your daughter will be surrounded by many strong, female role models. Our all female staff show our campers that they have the potential to be an expert in any area whether that be water skiing, lacrosse, stained glass, or any of our other activities!

Room
Each of our cabins houses about 8 campers and at least two counselors. Our younger campers have more counselors as they need a little extra guidance and tender loving care. Our cabins have electricity, running water, and toilets. Most of our younger camper cabins have showers in them as well!

Wa-Klo campers live out of trunks and are given cubby space to help them settle in and feel like they are their home away from home!

For our campers, their cabin mates are their immediate family that help make up our large Wa-Klo family. When campers are young, we mix up the cabins every year so that the girls get to know everyone else in their age group. One of the most important jobs in the spring is making cabin placements. One of the benefits of Tammy, our director, meeting every new camper either in person or via video chat is that she gets to know the girls prior to their arrival. We place girls of the same age together based on many aspects to ensure that every single camper has the best experience possible. We use this same philosophy as we place counselors with each cabin.

Food

At Wa-Klo, we are a large family and to help develop that feeling we eat family style. We have a counselor at the head of every table serving our delicious and nutritionist approved meals. A counselor at the foot helps serve, water, milk, or juice to the girls while another counselor in the middle helps with anything else the girls need.

For every meal, the girls have multiple options. At breakfast, we have the hot option and offer the girls oatmeal, multiple flavors of yogurt, pastries, and granola. For lunch and dinner, we always have a hot option as well as our our salad bar that is full of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as homemade humus, quinoa salad, egg salad, tuna fish salad, and much more! We additionally have sun butter and jelly as an option for the girls. Throughout the day, girls can stop by multiple spots throughout camp to grab a healthy snack!

Allergy Awareness

Wa-Klo is an allergy aware camp. We are nut free and are able to accommodate most food allergies including celiac disease, lactose intolerant, and many others. At Wa-Klo we strive to give every girl a wonderful camp experience and do not want food concerns to be a reason a girls can’t enjoy the Wa-Klo experience! Our wonderful dining room staff will provide each camper with an appropriate and filling meal so that food is not a focus for the camper; she can relax, have fun, and make life-long memories!

Health

Camp Wa-Klo has a wonderful medical staff, and we make every effort that your daughter’s stay with us is both healthy and safe. We staff the clinic with two nurses at all times, and the camp director just happens to be a practicing surgeon. We are 15 minutes from a hospital, have a long-lasting relationship with a pediatric practice nearby, and Emergency Medical Systems (9-1-1) can be at camp within 10 minutes. Wa-Klo is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA), and all counselors are trained in CPR and basic first aid.

We believe that communication is imperative before your camper arrives and even more so while she is there. If a camper stays over night in our health center, needs to see a doctor, or visits our nursing staff multiple times for the same issue, we will give you a call. We work with our camp families as a team to help ensure that each camper has a safe and life-changing time at camp.

Activities Teachers

Camp Wa-Klo is brimming with activities of every kind. At Wa-Klo you don’t have to specialize in any one area, you can broaden your horizons and try over 30 activities from our waterfront activities, land activities, creative arts or equestrian programs. Try a little of everything and see what activities you enjoy! One of the best parts about Wa-Klo is you can try all of these activities during your time at camp and we already have all of the equipment for you!

Land Sports

Girls have great fun developing skills in both team and individual sports! Wa-Klo is one of few camps to offer field archery, where a camper can shoot targets that are scattered through the woods.

Our 5-star facility has playing areas for tennis, gymnastics, and a large gymnasium that houses basketball and volleyball courts plus a fitness room. Large playing fields are perfect for lacrosse, field hockey, and soccer. Bunnies, calves, goats, and sheep live near the stables in our pet care area.

With “right-sized” equipment and playing areas, sport specialists have the opportunity to work one-on-one and in small groups to create enthusiasm and confidence in each sport. Campers progress at their own rate as they learn the skills of each of the sports. We are not a highly competitive camp, but girls who enjoy competition can participate in a fun myriad of both intra and inter camp activities.
