Our Summer Camp: Hard to Spell, Easy to Love

Imagine a summer camp in the Adirondacks that combines all of this every single day:

  • Unmatched beauty of our north shore location on one of the great Adirondack Lakes
  • Self-discovery that starts with exceptional counselors and instructors
  • Delight that comes from realizing previously unknown talents and skills
  • Adventure that comes from trying brand new things with lots of support

Imagine all this happening, when all you expected was a great time:

  • Together we build a sense of real community, beginning with sportsmanship
  • Together we create a secure and supportive environment, based on mutual respect
  • Together we form warm and lasting friendships . . . because we’re really nice

And that great time you expected happens every day.

Location, Location, Location - Ours Is Quite Special

For our campers, Camp Chateaugay represents a truly exciting journey to a very special place.

For our campers and staff, Camp Chateaugay is sacred land:

  • Your child does not have to cross a road to get to our lake
  • Camp's lakefront is a quarter mile with an additional mile (+) of forever wild lakeshore
  • Camp is safely located right on the lakeshore
  • Secluded location keeps campers safe

It starts with playing in the sunshine.  Then it becomes part of your life.

When people search for a summer camp, they often hear a lot about Camp Spirit.

Whether or not a parent remembers the almost magical appearance of Camp Spirit in their own lives, we can assure you that here, we do our part to make it happen every summer:

  • Traditional games, campfires, camp celebrations – to create indelible memories
  • Bonding across age groups, genders and nationalities – to encourage friendship
  • Continuous surprises – from wacky traditions to spontaneous dining hall craziness

This sleepaway camp, located on Chateaugay Lake in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, offers an incredible collection of unique activities and modern, yet rustic facilities, all in a beautiful natural setting. What makes this camp truly special are the people - from the campers, who come from all over and become new and lasting friends, to the counselors and specialists, who mentor and serve as "older brothers and sisters," and finally, to the owners who get right in there and set the standard for a summer of fun and adventure. The warm, welcoming atmosphere makes this a perfect option for the first-time sleepaway camper. Your child, age 7-17, will enjoy the ultimate summer camp experience - a traditional camp setting with camp-wide traditions and celebrations, lakefront access to a variety of water sports, a heated pool, riding facilities, sports fields, a 12,000 sq. ft. indoor gym, dance studio, arts center and so much more!

Mission & Philosophy

Imagine a summer camp in the Adirondacks that combines all of this every single day:

Unmatched beauty of our north shore location on one of the great Adirondack Lakes

Self-discovery that starts with exceptional counselors and instructors

Delight that comes from realizing previously unknown talents and skills

Adventure that comes from trying brand new things with lots of support

Camp Chateaugay believes that when children are in a physcially and emotionally safe environment they can really thrive. Whether it is life skills like self confidence or independence or physcial skills like soccer or ceramics, children develop skills that they take with them through the rest of their lives.

Meet Our Director
Mitch Goldman- Director

Summer camp has been a huge part of Mitch’s life since he was a camper at Camp Chateaugay as a child and has played an integral part of his development as an adult. He came to camp through his mother who was a camper at Chateaugay in the 1950’s. So it would be safe to say that Camp Chateaugay runs in his blood. His affinity for Camp Chateaugay even stayed with him through his career in the entertainment industry as a film producer. During that time, he always stayed connected to Camp Chateaugay as the head of Chateaugay's alumni group. His vast experience in summer camping, his love of the outdoors and his commitment to enrich the lives of children all contribute to an unstoppable camp spirit that he uses to makes camp an unforgettable experience for the campers. He is thrilled that his wife Ashley is with him every summer as camp's head unit leader and their daughter Charlie has grown up knowing camp as  her summer home away from home.

Our Staff
Our staff works closely with each child to help guide them and to provide competent instruction, allowing our campers to discover their own capabilities and develop a healthy self-esteem. We have an excellent staff to camper ratio (2:1) and the vast majority of our senior staff and counselors has been returning for multiple years. Our attention to detail in our pre-camp staff training helps to assure a positive and safe camp experience for all of the campers.

Facility and Location

Camp Chateaugay resides on 250 acres of pristine lakefront property on the norther tier of New York’s Adirondack Park. Lake Placid lies 50 miles to the south and Lake Champlain is 40 miles due west.
