Practice in the right way to make every practice counts!

Learn how to practice well is essential to the development and success of every music student. Repeating bad habits, lack of focused attention, and the inability to extract specific issues and deal with them efficiently: these are challenges that students face in the practice. A practice coach can help eliminate these destructive habits and improve the student’s ability to practice with maximum efficiency.

A good practice coach can be an invaluable part of a serious music student’s progress. We hope you’ll take advantage of this unique opportunity to dramatically improve the productivity of your practice time !

Viola Practice Coaching:

  • Provide feed back so that mistakes and bad habits will not be repeated during daily practice
  • Guide the student to practice the hard part methodically
  • Improve practice efficiency
  • Make the practice session interesting and inspiring

A passionate educator, Kody is the graduate assistant to Professor Ayane Kozasa at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. In this role, he teaches undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral Viola and Violin students, on a weekly basis. He also has extensive experience teaching beginner students both online and in person, as well as coaching chamber groups.

An avid lover of chamber music, Kody has recently performed with acclaimed artists including Nobuko Imai, Alexi Kenney, and the Kronos Quartet. He has studied chamber music with members and former members of the Kronos, St. Lawrence, Ariel, Aizuri, and Telegraph string quartets, and has attended summer programs including the St. Lawrence String Quartet Seminar, as well as the Green Lake and Green Mountain Festivals of Music.

As an artist, Kody strongly believes that art and performance play an essential role in society. As such, in addition to participating in more traditional performance settings, he regularly organizes and participates in community outreach. This includes, organizing music for food concerts, playing in both hospitals and retirement homes, and introducing the next generation to classical music via presentations in preschools.

Kody is completing his Master’s in Viola Performance at the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. He holds a Bachelor's degree in the same field from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and has previously studied at the University of California, Irvine. His primary teachers include Ayane Kozasa, Dimitri Murrath, and Jerzy Kosmala.

In his time away from music, Kody enjoys returning to his hometown of Honolulu, Hawaii, to spend time with family and enjoy nature.
