• The Scholastic Art & Writing Award is a well-known art and writing competition in the United States, covering a wide range and sponsored by many well-known companies
• Students who are interested in writing and art, willing to challenge themselves, and improve themselves can participate
• Winning an award in the Scholastic competition is an affirmation of students’ knowledge and abilities, as well as an encouragement and motivation to students
• Students with this kind of major award will have a unique advantage in future university applications
In this course, there will be different categories, each focusing on one category. These categories are mainly:
Short story (short story/flash fiction): through the study of famous works, teach various elements of fiction stories, learn and apply various forms of viewpoint expression and plot development skills in novels.
Poetry: Teaching various forms of poetry, introducing and practicing various creative techniques of poetry.
Personal essay (personal essay): Personal essay subjects and styles are relatively broad and free. The class will introduce the writing ideas and writing methods of this type of composition through specific examples of famous writers (such as Michel de Montaigne).
Critical Essay: Teaches all the fundamentals of writing an essay that involves research and critical thinking. You will learn how to brainstorm interesting topics; locate scholarly sources using databases, search engines, and bibliographies; outline your argument; select citations from your sources; analyze and interpret your citations; plan out a complex line of reasoning; and edit your essay.
Students can choose one or more of these categories.
Each genre has one class(1.5 hours) per week, with a total of 10 classes.
