Professional Experience
Education
Why should you choose me?
1. I am NOT your typical, run-of-the-mill teacher! If a student is already having difficulty in a subject area, I will not make that student’s life any more difficult by using teaching strategies that have since proved unsuccessful. I strive to guide my students towards independent problem solving and success, and away from hating school.
2. I have a passion and a love for teaching! It began during my student teaching experiences in college and has been with me and my students ever since.
3. I have always placed the importance of keeping the art and science of being an exceptional teacher far ahead of the actual subjects I teach.
4. Perhaps most importantly, I know what it is like to struggle in school. Beginning in early elementary school, my undiagnosed ADD appeared, only to be compounded by my own specific “learning styles”. All I ever heard was that I was lazy, and if I concentrated more, I would do better. It wasn’t until I was a sophomore in high school that the ADD was diagnosed and treatment began. In addition, I was given accommodations for my learning disability, and I was placed in the classrooms of very capable teachers and tutors who understood these issues. With the help of these special teachers and tutors, my test grades began to improve, and then they sky-rocketed. Within a year, I was taking honor’s classes.
6. Before graduating from high school, I was able to set a career goal, and that was to go to college to become a Spanish teacher.
7. My job is not to make my students’ lives easier. It is to equip them with the skills and experiences they will truly need in the not-so-distant future.
