Tutoring Subjects:
Chris P.
I offer patient, focused help in algebra through calculus and into university math, as well as algebra-based and calculus-based physics. I can also help with introductory Python coding. I'm an MIT graduate with degrees in physics and philosophy. I teach math and creative problem-solving at a Montessori high school.
I work with both remedial and accelerated students. I'm friendly and affirmative to all, creative in my approaches, and I have experience with math anxiety. I'm also neurodivergent, on the autism spectrum, so I'm aware of both the challenges and the potential of diverse learning styles.
Instead of trying to fit everything into a one-hour session, most students find that meeting twice a week allows time to get into, for example, the details of homework and practice exams. Especially once things get a bit intricate, rushing through math is a recipe for frustration.
As a math enthusiast with an interest in creative exploration, I’m also available to formal students or casual learners who might want “structure, but not too much structure” in their journey adjacent to or outside of their formal STEM curriculum. I’m still learning new math and related things (how to put math into a poem; how to write a Python script to color-code the Langford sequence, for examples), and so I enjoy guiding others who may want to play as much as work; who may want to try things in “sandbox mode.” Let me know what curiosity project interests you and I’ll see whether I can help with it!
