Tutoring Subjects:
Chris P.
I offer patient, focused help in algebra through calculus and into university math, as well as algebra-based and calculus-based physics. I can also help with introductory Python coding. I'm an MIT graduate with degrees in physics and philosophy. I teach math and creative problem-solving at a Montessori high school.
I work with both remedial and accelerated students. I'm friendly and affirmative to all, creative in my approaches, and I have experience with math anxiety. I'm also neurodivergent, on the autism spectrum, so I'm aware of both the challenges and the potential of diverse learning styles.
As a one-on-one tutor, I prefer to work with students enrolled in a course and seeking assistance with it. Helping students practice problems from their course, I go through every solution path with them, leaving no stone unturned. I draw connections between concepts and add context to solution techniques. I believe that mathematics is a laboratory of understanding and thus mathematical thinking grows from curiosity and experimentation: from wondering about and doing.
Instead of trying to fit everything into a one-hour session, most students find that meeting twice a week allows time to get into, for example, the details of homework and practice exams.
