Activities Teachers

Edward E

I have been teaching for almost thirty years. I’ve taught college and high-school students in groups and one-on-one.

My favorite courses to teach are Literature, Writing/Grammar, and Creative Writing. I also teach SAT Prep (Verbal) and coach students writing College Essays. I am an experienced AP English Literature and Composition reader/scorer.

There is nothing wrong with education being a little hard, but it should also be fun. Studying literature is often as simple as finding the right book that engages the student. My job is to help my students find those right books and then help them use those books to understand how stories are told and how they are affected by context. The trick to writing essays is finding a way to personalize your topic choices—it is always better to read something a student is interested in than reading something they hate (Grammar, of course, takes some work, but there are ways to approach it that take the sting out of things). It is said that there is a story in everyone; I would love to help you find yours.

I have a Ph.D. in (Theatrical) History and Literature. I’ve written and presented papers on History, Literature, Theatre, and Film. I’ve been a journalist. I’ve published poetry and Young Adult books. I’ve taught on four continents and SCUBA dived on three; I directed a play in the middle of the Pacific Ocean; I’ve skippered sailboats on two seas; I’ve done archaeology in the Middle East. Life should be an adventure and I would love my next one to be helping you on the adventure of learning.
