Spanish Beginner 0 is a 50-minute weekly course that makes learning Spanish fun, interactive, and unforgettable! Students will explore foundational topics like the alphabet, numbers (0–101), colors, the calendar, seasons, and weather through games, music, and engaging activities. Along the way, they’ll dive into real-world vocabulary about animals, the human body, clothing, sports, family, home, and food—building practical skills for everyday conversation. Mr. Simpson’s lively teaching style and creative classroom bring Spanish to life, helping students speak with confidence from day one. The semester wraps up with a fun and rewarding review that celebrates how far they’ve come on their Spanish journey!

Spanish Beginner 1 is a 50-minute weekly course that builds on the basics with even more vocabulary, confidence, and cultural fun! Students will master numbers up to 1001 and dive into everyday topics like the supermarket, fruits, vegetables, meals, and healthy living through hands-on activities, role-plays, and games. Each week brings new adventures as they explore household items, transportation, accessories, and communication essentials—all while using Spanish in real-world scenarios. With visits to the city (virtually and through storytelling!) and interactive projects, learners grow their speaking and listening skills in exciting, practical ways. A lively semester review ties it all together and celebrates each student’s amazing progress in their Spanish-speaking journey!

High School Spanish is a 50 minutes weekly course that sets students on the path to real, confident Spanish communication. Through engaging activities, students will master the alphabet, numbers up to 1001, and the building blocks of conversation while diving into topics like the calendar, time, and everyday vocabulary. Grammar takes center stage with an introduction to nouns, articles, subject pronouns, and essential verbs like ser, tener, and estar, as well as regular AR, ER, and IR verb conjugations. Adjectives and descriptive language help students create richer, more meaningful sentences, bringing their Spanish to life. The semester culminates in a fun, interactive review that ensures every student is ready to take their Spanish skills to the next level.

Intermediate Spanish   is a 50-minute weekly course designed to take students from basic understanding to confident communication. Learners will strengthen their grasp of numbers up to 1001, the calendar, and everyday conversations through immersive speaking and listening practice. The course dives deeper into grammar with a focus on subject pronouns, regular verb conjugations (AR, ER, IR), and essential structures like gustar and similar verbs, making communication more fluent and expressive. Students will explore how to talk about activities, ask and answer questions, and use nouns and verbs in practical, meaningful ways. Each class builds toward a comprehensive semester review, celebrating growth and setting the stage for future Spanish success.

She has over a decade of experience teaching Latin at the University of Pennsylvania and in high schools.

Her students frequently commend her engaging teaching style and the significant progress they make under her guidance. Many excel on the National Latin Exam (NLE) and often place out of the first two years of college-level foreign language requirements. Deborah employs traditional teaching methods, using high-quality textbooks, clear explanations, extensive drills, and regular homework to ensure her students develop a strong and comprehensive understanding of the language. She is deeply passionate about building a solid foundation for her students, believing that early mastery will benefit them throughout their academic and personal lives.

Ms. Shupp (called “Magistra” by students - teacher in Latin) has an undergraduate degree in Latin and Classical Humanities in addition to Secondary Education.  Her Master’s Degree is in Interdisciplinary Humanities and focused on the confluence of visual art and ancient Latin.  Michelle was raised in a bilingual household, as her mother was born and raised in Korea.
