Hello! I'm Daichi, a UC Berkeley graduate with degrees in Computer Science and Cognitive Science. Originally from Japan, I'm currently in NYC pursuing a master's degree in clinical psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University.

I began tutoring regularly during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when many students were struggling to adapt to online learning. What began as a way to help students fill those gaps became something I genuinely enjoyed, and I have now been tutoring for over six years. I've worked with students ranging from third graders to working adults preparing for career changes into engineering.

While my approach to tutoring differs based on the subject I'm teaching, the main principle I always use is to give my students only the help necessary for them to solve the problem in front of them. In other words, when walking a student through a problem, I prioritize being patient and not giving the answer away immediately. At times, this can make problems take longer; however, I've observed over time—especially with students I've taught for 3–4 years—that this pays off in terms of grades and subject engagement.

I tutor math from elementary topics through single- and multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and discrete mathematics, including SAT and ACT math. I also offer Japanese, English tutoring for Japanese native speakers (which aligns with my experience as a software engineer at a Japanese company building an English-learning app), Computer Science, and beginner and intermediate chess tutoring. Depending on a student's needs and interests, I'm happy either to stick closely to a curriculum or to go on tangents and explore questions they might not normally have time to pursue in class.

Refund for Lesson Packages

You may cancel a lesson package with at least 24 hours' written notice before the next lesson. Completed lessons will be billed at the standard hourly rate, and the remaining balance will be refunded minus a 5% processing fee. The fee is waived if you keep the balance as credit on your TimeAfterSchool account for other lessons.

Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy

• Standard Policy: Provide at least 24 hours' notice before the scheduled start time to cancel or reschedule a lesson free of charge. Cancellations or reschedules with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur the full lesson fee.

All tutoring sessions for students under 18 years old must be supervised by a responsible adult.
