Course Description
Overview of the fundamental laws of chemistry, with conceptual learning and quantitative calculations. This course will cover the majority of AP chemistry concepts, with additional topics in thermodynamics and quantum chemistry.
Requirements
This course is designed for students who have already had some experience with either regular or honors chemistry. It is designed for students who will be taking AP Chemistry, basic inorganic
general chemistry college courses, or participating in chemistry olympiads.
Learning Outcomes
The purpose of this course is to give students an conceptual understanding of all fundamental aspects of inorganic chemistry, on the macroscopic and microscopic levels. Students
will be able to solve conceptual and free response problems commonly seen in advanced high school or college chemistry courses.
Course Materials
Chemistry. 8th edition. Zumdahl.
A link to the textbook will be provided on the first day of class, but a print copy is recommended if the class is to be taken again for credit in high school or college. Other course materials, including notes, homework, and online videos will be provided throughout the class.
The typical class structure will cover material at a pace flexible to students, which include:
Course Communication
I will be communicating with students and parents regarding progress in the class. If you are having trouble with this course or
its material, please contact me to discuss any issues. I am flexible to change classes to fit the students' needs, or provide any extra resources to help guide you.
Course Assignments
Asynchronous work is composed of homework problem sets. These assignments are for completion only, unless otherwise requested to be graded. Although they are technically
optional, I would highly recommend working through them as it would prepare you better for any future multivariable calculus courses you may take! Mock unit exams will be given throughout the prep course. These are again, just for practice and feedback will be given if requested. They will be open notes, but nothing else may be used.
