Who is eligible to take this course?
High school students who have taken at least a year of High-school Physics or AP Physics or an equivalent course, including mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, and possibly optics. Students should have had at least a year of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry as well. Some science lab experience will be helpful.
What does this course do?
The goal of this course is to help students get ready for the PhysicsBowl competition, to be held every year in March and April. The class will combine quick reviews of major physics concepts / principals and dissections of real problems in the PhysicsBowl exams from previous years.

The students should be familiar with and are interested in topics in mechanics such as 1-D and 2-D kinematics, Newton’s laws, momentum, energy, etc. The students should have had at least a year of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry as well. Some science lab experience will be helpful.

Course overview:
This physics course on mechanics is designed to help students in grades 6-8 prepare and reach a head start on their high school physics classes. Over 10 lessons, the course will go over the fundamental principles of mechanics, with concepts like displacement, velocity, acceleration, force, and energy. Students will do a few worksheet practice problems for homework and review during class for each unit.

Course Description:
This is a 1st year general physics course in high school and will include topics of kinematics, force & motion, energy, momentum, heat, thermodynamics, light, sound, electricity, magnetism, electromagnetism, and modern physics concepts.
Course Information: The course is an algebra- based physics and use of math is required. The student must have pencils or pens, a scientific calculator, and a note book. This course is going to cover the topics

Ms Jessica is an accomplished science educator with over two decades of experience teaching biology, physics, and related sciences at both the secondary and collegiate levels. She holds a Master of Science in Microbiology and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Microbiology from Northeastern University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Indiana University.
Throughout her career, Jessica has served in diverse academic settings, including New York City Public Schools, Montgomery College, and Fine Mortuary College, where she has taught AP Biology, Chemistry, and Microbiology. She is certified in both Physics and Biology in New York and Massachusetts and has held roles as an AP Administrator, Google Administrator, mentor teacher, and professional development leader.
Jessica’s professional interests include curriculum alignment, inquiry-based learning, and STEM integration. A published educator and NYS Master Teacher, she has presented at national conferences such as NSTA and contributed to initiatives like Math for America and the NYC STEM Leadership Team.
Mr. Billings has dedicated 27 years to education, specializing in AP Economics throughout his career. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Industrial Management from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Education from the University of Pittsburgh. For the past 15 years, Mr. Billings has served as the department chairperson at a highly regarded suburban high school near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His experience with AP Economics began in 1996, when he first taught the course as an intern while completing his graduate studies.

Ms Christina is an experienced and passionate educator with certifications in Social Studies, English, French, Gifted Education, and ESL. She currently teaches both virtually and in-person, working with students from elementary to high school. Christina specializes in creating engaging, challenging, and creative learning experiences that encourage students to think critically and explore new ideas. This summer, she is excited to help students grow their skills, spark curiosity, and have fun while learning!
Dr. Sundin holds a BS and MS in Chemistry and an EdD in Educational Leadership with a focus on STEM. As Associate Faculty in Chemistry, he is a dedicated STEM education specialist committed to empowering students and advancing science learning. With a strong background in both teaching and research, Dr. Sundin brings years of experience teaching high school and college-level science courses, with a focus on bridging the gap between secondary and higher education.
