English Language Arts (Secondary and College)
Test Prep
Writing (Formal and Creative):
I have been teaching English for 14 years in the classroom and 6 years online. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Secondary Education from Florida State University, where I also minored in Communications. I have a lot of knowledge about the subject and a genuine desire to help students become confident, capable readers, writers, and critical thinkers. I combine these attributes with effective teaching methods and clear, purposeful communication.
I believe that all students can learn and grow when they know someone is there for them. As a tutor, teacher, and mentor, my main job is to build relationships and trust with my students. I make a point of meeting them where they are academically and emotionally. I make learning seem less overwhelming by personalizing lessons to each student's strengths, needs, and goals.
I teach in a way that puts the student first and helps them learn. I model skills so that students know what is expected of them. Then I help them learn by asking questions and having discussions that make them think. This approach helps kids learn to think critically, find connections, and come to their own conclusions. It also
helps them become more independent and confident, as well as improve their academic skills. I stress clarity, structure, and work on transferable skills that can be used in other situations so that students may use what they learn outside of our tutoring sessions.
My goal is to make the learning environment helpful and low stress, so students feel comfortable asking questions. I create a safe, encouraging learning environment that reduces anxiety and builds confidence. I adapt instruction to each student’s learning style and current level. I break down complex texts and tasks into
clear, manageable steps. I emphasize critical thinking, close reading, and strong writing habits. I teach strategies students can apply independently across classes and assessments. Whether they are getting ready for a test, working on their basic abilities, or improving their writing, students will show short-term improvement and long-term growth in academics, confidence, and independence.
