About Ms. Tali
I graduated with a Ph.D. from Brown University in 2025, and my academic background is in Chinese history with focus on Chinese religion in the premodern period. From 2006 to 2017, I lived in China for ten years. During this period, I studied Chinese language, culture, and history while working as an ESL teacher.
I have ample experience teaching academic reading and writing, and I also really enjoy teaching courses related to Social Studies. I am a scholar in the Humanities, so I have a passion for reading, writing, discussing ideas, and connecting the past and the present.
My approach to teaching could be described as “Kaleidoscoping.” When you look through a Kaleidoscope, you peep through a small, narrow aperture that leads your eye to an intricate, colorful, patten-like image, multiplied. When you learn about the world around through the study of history, literature, and philosophy, you are viewing the world through a figurative narrow aperture, the “Self,” but you connect to other people, cultures, and geographies. Similar to peering into a kaleidoscope, I think learning always consists of oscillating between our limited notion of “self” and others, and between our personal world and the broader world. This is the process I walk through with my students.
I will be happy to tutor students in academic reading and writing, social studies, and world history (including AP world history).
