Lake Greeley Camp is a family owned, overnight summer camp operated by the Buynak Family, who for over 50 years have provided boys and girls between the ages of 6-15 summers that are exciting, captivating, and full of fun and discovery. With over 60 activities, our daily program is designed to provide campers with the opportunity to learn new skills as well as develop existing skills from activity specialists in an understanding, no pressure environment.

We encourage children who spend their summer with us to be as active and involved as possible with doing many activities, participating in evening activites like dances, skit and talent shows, and to grow socially with all the campers and staff in camp.

Located in the eastern reaches of Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains, Lake Greeley Camp provides a nurturing environment where campers are encouraged and supported to make their own decisions and be active and involved in the summer camp program and as a result develop independence, confidence, and self-esteem.

Accredited by the American Camp Association, Lake Greeley Camp combines the facilities, program, and staff experience to create a summer camp where children learn, grow and thrive. The Junior Division at Lake Greeley Camp is the designation for our youngest campers in the camp population. These campers in the Junior Division take part in many things that any other camper does, but there are a couple differences that are unique to the division so that the campers can acclimate better to the camp environment and enjoy their time at Greeley.

Cabin Schedule

Unlike the Intermediates and Seniors, the Junior Division is one that operates on a cabin-based schedule. That means that the camepers will be going around as a cabin or division group with counselors acting at GCC's or General Cabin Counselors in order to provide supervision in between activities and in addition to the counselors instructing the activities as well.

While they are doing mostly any activity that our older campers would be doing, there are some exceptions based on the age such as not being allowed to use our Quads or ATV's, going on off camp trips like our Railriders baseball and White Water Rafting.

The great thing about the cabin schedule is that if there is an activity that the Junior campers would want to participate more in, we need only change the schedule to incorporate more of that activity. Changes can be made simply and quickly.

Cabin Clean-Up

One point we try to instill in the campers is responsibility, not just in making your own decisions through activities or in how to interact with others, but also in taking care of your area in your cabin. All our campers take part in cabin clean-up in the morning which would include making beds, folding and putting away clothes and making the cabin, in general, clean. The children can expect to take part in cabin clean up with a rotating chore chart with jobs like sweeping or taking out the trash from the cabin as jobs they kids can do.

The best part of cabin clean up is that a winning boys and girls cabin who have the best score at the end of the week get a pizza party from a local pizzeria as a reward for their efforts!

Evening Activities

The Junior Division takes part in evening activities that are either camp-wide or specific to the division on some nights. These activities can include pool parties, socials, athletic events or special themed activities. For a schedule of the evening activities, you can go to our evening activity page to get a sense of which activities are occurring when your child(ren) are at camp. The more participation in these activities the better as it allows your child(ren) to take on a more active role in camp.

The intermediate division is our middle division with the age group of 10 through 12 for the campers in camp. Being a little older than the juniors, the intermediates begin to experience some more freedom in the camp and begin to make their own decisions about how they want to spend their time within their session at camp. The way they do that is explained below.

The Elective Program

The intermediates (and seniors) operate with the Elective Program in Lake Greeley Camp for the daily schedule each day there are activity periods scheduled. The campers will go through the elective program every morning where the intermediates and seniors choose the activities they want to participate in for that particular day. Each day can be different and we encourage different activities each and every day to give campers and staff variety and something to look forward to in the schedule.

You can have special clinics for beginners at tennis or you can have a special raft crafting session at the lake. There can be specific projects at arts and crafts for the social that is coming up that week for the social's theme. There can be many different things during the course of a particular day and each day changes from one to another. It keeps summer camp fun, interesting, and new!

 Evening Activities

With the daily activities being done through the Elective Program, evening activities operate a little differently in that they can be a campwide activity or division specific. Check out our evening activity calendar to see the kinds of activities the kids will be involved in during their sessions in the summer. As mentioned previously in the elective program section, you can have a social with a certain theme or a pool party, cabin skits, and much more. With evening activities, there are also daily activities we encourage the campers to get involved in as well.

With all these activities going on, we encourage you to look through the activities in preparing for camp because you can pack certain clothing or props for those events. We encourage as much participation as possible and if more people participate, the more fun the activity becomes!

Goals for Intermediates

There are a lot of activities and events for intermediate campers to get involved with, but why send your child to camp if they fall within this division? Unlike the juniors and seniors, the intermediate division is unique in that the children are at an age where we entrust responsibility but we still guide them in the decisions they are making.

We want the very best for the campers when they come to camp and each division has different needs that must be met in order to fulfill that goal.

We encourage exploration, learning, trial and error, not being afraid to make mistakes, doing something new every day and in this way, the intermediates expand their skills and meet many new people in camp developing relationships that they can take with them throughout the year along the way.

The senior division at Lake Greeley Camp denotes the oldest campers in camp. It is usually our most populated division in camp, too. The age group for the senior division begins at 13 and ends at 15. The interesting point to mention that many people may not realize with the senior division is that not all seniors at Lake Greeley Camp are returning campers.

Many people believe that campers begin their time at a camp at a young age and continue through into their teens, but that is not always the case. We see a number of campers who begin their camping experience with us in the senior division as well. And when they do, they have the feeling of wishing they had begun at a younger age. And with all these fun points to mention, it's no wonder why.

Elective Program For Seniors

The Senior Division, like the Intermediates, go through their session at Lake Greeley Camp with the Elective Program where they are choosing activities each day when there are activity periods in the schedule. The elective program gives campers a way to experience a variety of activities during their time at camp, so that they can grow, learn, and meet as many people in camp as possible. And each day can be very different from any other because the program is all based around choice.

With the elective program, a particular goal we have in mind is instruction and we want campers, especially Seniors, to find activities that they particularly enjoy at camp and want to become more learned and involved in. It is not uncommon for senior campers at Greeley to become leaders at activity sites and help counselor instructors in operating activity sites. It's a great leadership growing opportunity!

Cabin Clean-Up

Teenages can be very messy and that certainly does not change when they get to camp and begin living in the cabins during their sessions. That is why we have a time in the morning before activities begin when campers and counselors will clean their cabins. Cabins will have chore charts or other ways of dividing responsibilities for campers in taking care of the cabin. These responsibilities will include sweeping, taking out trash, cleaning around the outside of the cabin. Campers are also expected to take care of their own areas within the cabin such as making their bed every morning and maintaining their clothing and other items. It is expected that daily cleaning will keep the cabin a healthy environment for campers and staff alike.

Evening Activities

Evening activities are a great way for senior campers to socialize with one another from the same cabin or in the group as a whole. We have a wide variety of evening activities such as athletic events like our ever popular dodgeball tournament, socials like our Halloween social, pool parties, or other more nuanced activities like CSI night or Catch Me If You Can.

While not every camper is athletic or wants to be the most social, having a balance of these types of activities is important for everyone to experience because it builds not only strengths for the campers, but also the weaknesses in those other areas. It is believed that every experience can be a fruitful one and help grow a person's character.

Goals for Seniors

So why send your teenage son or daughter to camp for a session? For many parents and families, the answer to that question can simply be, "Well, that's what we have always done," and that's because families may have been sending their children to camp for a number of years by this point. It's become a part of growing up, a life experience that children don't otherwise receive in their daily lives with school, sports, or other groups at home or with friends at home. At Greeley, there are a number of campers who have come to camp for some years, but we have also had a number of first time campers come at these later years in their camp career and come out of the experience thinking they should have done this sooner.

No matter what year of camp it is for the seniors in camp, we want the summer to be one of experience and growth for the character and self-esteem of the camper. The teenage years are important formative ones where children are starting to see a larger world and trying to find their place in it. Just doing activities or what's for lunch is not as important as they would be for a junior, per se, but instead, it's do people like me or how do I fit in with the group as a whole? We want to show senior campers that they do fit in and that they do belong within the community at Greeley. We welcome them and invite senior campers to experience everything that Greeley has to offer, and by doing so, the campers will learn more about themselves than they could almost anywhere else.

Activities Teachers

Campers at Lake Greeley Camp are divided into three divisions: Junior, Intermediate and Senior. This page will talk about the program that the divisions follow for activities during the day at camp.

Juniors

For those campers entering 1st through 4th grades, they are a part of our Junior Division. As a Junior, campers are following a cabin schedule as their means of getting to activities during the day in the daily time schedule. This means that they will going from activity to activity with a counselor and will be participating in activities with just their cabin group so that counselors can give them proper supervision and activity.

While the schedule is set for the days while at camp, there is still opportunity to go to specific activities more if the campers want to. We can make those changes to their schedule as days and weeks go on.

Intermediates and Seniors

For campers entering 5th grade and above Lake Greeley Camp offers an elective program. This is operated in our daily program allowing campers of a choice of over 60 activities for the six periods. The program is 100% personal choice on the camper's behalf.
