Summer Staff Information

Hiring, Hours, & Recompense:

High school, college-age, and adult summer staff are hired for positions based on experience and ability. The camp is an equal opportunity employer. Room and board are provided as well. Employment time lasts from early June (training period) through mid-August. Most weeks run from Sunday at 2:00 p.m. through Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

Personal Qualifications:

A personal commitment to Jesus Christ.

A desire to serve God through the synod’s camps.

A willingness to give a Christian witness in spontaneous situations as well as during worship.

An understanding and agreement with the central objectives of the educational ministry program of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and of the Lutheran Camping Corporation of Central Pennsylvania.

Emotional stability and mature judgment.

A love and understanding of youth and children.

Good health and stamina.

An appreciation for the camp setting and the out of doors.

Training and/or experience in camping and small group living.

Ability to work cooperatively in a group.

Ability to place the needs of campers over personal desires and convenience.

Counselor

Responsible for cabin of campers (usually 6-8 per week). Most often paired with a cabin group of the opposite gender. Experience the whole day with campers; swimming, hiking, crafts, recreation, worship, nature studies, cookouts, sleepouts, cabin life. Applicants should enjoy these type of activities, have a love for (and patience with) children, and possess a desire to share God’s word. Other assets: creative, easy-going, attentive, and enthusiastic. Must be at least eighteen years old, a high school graduate or college student.

Crafts Staff

Led by crafts hall director, this staff is responsible for planning & providing afternoon crafts programs for the whole camp (sessions divided by age). Also lead various morning elective classes and participate in evening and other camp activities as needed. Applicants should have a love for children, a desire to share God’s word, an interest in crafts, and a willing easy-going nature.

Kitchen Staff

Work with trained, experienced cook to provide healthy, tasty meals for campers and staff. Also participate in other camp activities as available and directed. Applicants should be flexible team players and possess a desire to share God’s word. Prior kitchen experience is helpful but not necessary.

Maintenance Staff

Work with site manager to keep the camp safe, clean, and in repair. Participate in other camp activities as directed and available. Applicants should have a desire to share God’s word and a willingness to work together. Prior outdoor work experience and/ or carpentry skills are helpful but not necessary.

Lifeguards

Responsible for the swimming safety of campers and staff as well as the proper sanitation of the pool. Participate in other camp activities as directed and available. Applicants should have their Basic Lifeguarding Certificate (valid through summer), a desire to share God’s word, and plenty of sunblock.
