Our camp activities are created and facilitated in a way that encourages campers to develop skills and explore new interests in a safe and fun environment. Campers can choose their own basic program by electing from 50 daily activities. Our elective program empowers campers to try a multitude of activities throughout their stay and to customize their schedule to suit their individual interests and aspirations. Evening programs, campfires, socials, overnight campouts, cookouts, theatre productions, talent nights, cabin skits, carnivals and our exciting off-site adventures round out an active and fun- packed Birch Hill summer. Campers leave here happy and fulfilled, having made friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. Our facilities include an indoor gymnasium, horse stables, a riding ring and trails, ball fields, four clay tennis courts, two paddle tennis courts, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, beach volleyball, street hockey arena, golf driving range, and a fun miniature golf course. Our Stage and Fine Arts Complex hosts our plays, special events and some of our most memorable “Evening Programs”. Travel Birch Hill campers and staff travel from near and far to spend their summers at Birch Hill. While a large percentage of our campers are from the East Coast , many travel from across the United States. We welcome many international campers and staff from Spain, France, Italy & beyond creating a dynamic family each summer.
Transportation Transportation: Birch Hill offers airport and bus station transportation to our camp families. Once your camper is enrolled, families can use the online transportation form to share with our team if their campers will be arriving by Car / Carpool, Bus, Train or Airplane. Cabin Life Cabins at Birch Hill are comfortable and consist of 8-10 campers of the same age. Each cabin is supervised by two counselors and has a full bathroom, hot water and electricity. Bedtime or “Light’s Out” is determined by camper age group. Laundry is provided once a week for campers. We have a suggested packing list which outlines what campers should bring to camp. There is no uniform for Birch Hill campers, they will be given a camp t-shirt to wear on off camp trips. Birch Hill can provide linens to campers at an additional charge. Included in the linen bundle is: one pillow, one pillow case, one fitted sheet, one flat sheet, sleeping bag or comforter, two bath towels, one beach towel and a washcloth.
A Day in the Life Activity Days Every camper at Birch Hill has an individual schedule based on activities they have chosen. The Birch Hill program is designed with a focus on fun, allowing campers to embrace activities they already enjoy while exposing them to a wide variety of new activities with skillful instruction. There are two activity days in a row “B-Day” and “H-Day”. The outline of activity days looks the same, only the activities change.
Dining and Wellness The health center and cafeteria are top priorities at Birch Hill. We strive for the highest standards, quality and care. Campers, counselors and guests tell us our food is excellent. We offer healthy and tasty food to keep our campers happy and active. Each buffet style meal serves many options along with an assortment of side dishes and salads. There are always vegetarian, gluten free, and lactose free options. *We can cater to most dietary needs, please contact our office to discuss details. In addition to Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner there is fruit available to our campers throughout the day, and water fountains near each program area to keep our campers hydrated. We have a resident camp nurse, often a camp parent and school nurse, who is available twenty-four hours to treat campers, deliver medication, remind campers to hydrate and keep our campers feeling great so they can enjoy their time at camp!
Food Glorious Food! Our amazing team of chefs are always hard-at-work cooking up tasty meals for 3 squares a day.
LAND SPORTS
We offer a wide range of different land sports taught by skilled instructors who display knowledge and expertise in their field. The activities are taught in an instructive fashion based around developing skills and developing an appreciation of and enjoyment for the activity. Campers learn the importance of teamwork, spirit and sportsmanship while getting fresh air and exercise in the great outdoors.
SPECIALTY SPORTS
Very often a camper will come to Camp Birch Hill and try an activity for the first time. Our specialty sports program encourages experimentation by offering all kinds of different activities. We cater to all levels of experience by allowing our campers to customize their programs and develop skills based on their interests.
WATER SPORTS
Water Sports Campers can enjoy cooling off on a hot summer’s day down at our beautiful waterfront. On opening day each child participates in a swim test run by our certified water safety instructors. Campers are then able to enjoy all the waterfront activities and can explore the lake in canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, sailboats or just jump around on our water tramp and iceberg. For those thrill seeking adventurous types we also offer wakeboarding, water skiing and tubing.
ADVENTURE
Our adventure program is run by professionally trained and qualified adventure staff who are also highly skilled instructors. The activities in this program area are built to encourage kids to step outside of their comfort zones, challenge their fears and do things that are fun and exciting. Whether this means climbing the high ropes course or mountain biking down our scenic back country trails, these activities are important for team building and personal growth. Campers leave these classes feeling brave and empowered.
FINE ARTS
We offer a rich fine arts program that is both creative and diverse and our classes inspire campers to embrace their own creativity. From arts and crafts, music, photography to the performing arts, there is something for everyone. In each class campers are able to express their originality and interests in unique and innovative ways. At the end of each session our acting/improv classes put on a theatre production giving all campers the opportunity to perform onstage in front of their friends and counselors.
TENNIS & GOLF
Campers who sign up for tennis and golf at Camp Birch Hill have a range of different activities to choose from. Our talented and expert instructors in these areas run their class in a way that encourages campers to learn and develop new skills while having a blast at the same time.

Each summer, Camp Birch Hill is home to Boys and Girls from all over the world, ages 6 to 16. With a focus on fun, our elective program lets campers choose from over 50 activities to create their own personalized schedule, while constantly being given the encouragement and option to try new activities. Our facilities include an indoor gymnasium, horse stables with riding ring and scenic trails, ball fields, 4 newly renovated tennis courts, pickle ball courts, gaga pits, paddle tennis courts, basketball courts, beach volleyball, street hockey arena, golf driving range, and a fun miniature golf course. Our stage and fine arts complex which is home to our arts and crafts pavilion and pottery barn, along with the home of our plays, music classes, special events and some of our most memorable evening programs. Another major feature of Camp Birch Hill is the 2,000 feet of shoreline and crystal clear waters of our private lake along with the expansive waters of Merrymeeting Lake for water-skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing. Last but not least, we have to mention our newly rebuilt climbing tower, low ropes course and high ropes course that connects to our 300 ft. zipline! The Staff At Camp Birch Hill Are A Colorful Group Of Individuals Carefully Selected Based On Experience, Merit And Qualification.
Our staff is primarily college students, graduates, faculty and former Birch Hill campers. Together we are a diverse group of mature, dignified role models coming from both the United States and abroad. Despite our different backgrounds, as camp counselors and staff there is a common thread that connects us all and brings us together in this magical place that we feel is our home away from home. We love teaching and having fun while maintaining a safe environment that facilitates growth for our campers.
At the beginning of each summer our counselors attend a week-long, comprehensive training course that speaks our values as an organization. Because our staff are hired based on competency in an activity area, this orientation is focused on addressing overarching concepts around making sure each and every camper feels comfortable and at home here at Birch Hill.
