Sew Happy Virtual Sewing Machine Program is a wonderful introduction to machine sewing for kids ages 8 - 13.

Having a fun hobby like sewing encourages kids to use their hands and their BRAINS! Sewing is a lifeskill and a great winter activity. It promotes self confidence and increases self esteem. The sewing machines we use are computerized so kids still feel like they are dabbling with technology. A win for kids AND parents!

A live Sew Happy instructor patiently guides each student using clear, concise video tutorials which are available for the student to watch at any point during the program. It also includes basic troubleshooting and by the end of the program most kids should feel comfortable with the basic functions of the sewing machine we recommend.

The program consists of 6 x 90 minute classes.

Students learn:

1.Getting Ready To Sew

• Positioning the cameras for virtual learning
• Setting up the sewing space
• Setting up a new sewing machine

2. Getting to know your sewing machine

• Safety in the sewing area
• Sewing machine anatomy and functions
• Threading the machine
• Winding the bobbin
• Inserting the bobbin
• Testing and troubleshooting

3. Introductory Felt Pouch

• Straight stitch
• Back stitch
• Sewing straight lines, pivots and curves
• Hand sewing a button​

4. Selfie Tote Bag

• Cutting fabric
• Constructing straps
• Attaching a pocket and pocket flap
• Putting all the components of the bag together

At Sew Happy we have spent 9 years teaching kids how to sew and we are confident that we have developed an online program that works. We use our own specially designed projects which have stitch lines and markings to make the learning process as smooth as possible. We recommend that you purchase the Brother CS6000i (approx $150 on Amazon) as this is the machine we use on our videos and it has a speed control which makes the experience SEW much easier! If you want to use your own machine we recommend that you chat with us first to make sure that your machine works with our program. 

Pippa has worked as a sewing instructor with Sew Happy for 3 years and is knowledgeable, patient, funny and she loves sewing! She taught a whole bunch of virtual camps last summer and since then has been teaching both hand and sewing machine virtually to kids. All of our students adore her!

If cancelled more than 1 week before start of program we will issue a refund minus $50 admin fee, if the cancellation is less than 1 week of start date then a credit will be given towards another program.
