Our private, 60-acre island on Lake Winnipesaukee houses incredible sports facilities, unbelievable views of Lake Winnipesaukee, and our teenage campers aged 13-15!
The Island is a teenage-appropriate summer camp environment that promotes a greater sense of responsibility, brotherhood and independence through our intentional program.
Our program is 100% elective based. This means that our teenagers select their own schedule. They are able to make changes weekly.
Activity periods are longer in duration allowing the boys to get comprehensive coaching sessions completed. We also offer an increased number of inter-camp tournaments for our Island campers.
Our waterfront program is robust, allowing campers to develop advanced water-sport skills. Water-ski, wake-board and wake-ski are especially popular activities for Island campers. Fishing, sailing and paddleboarding around the Island provide a great balance to the adventure of the ski-boat.
Boys are able to take advantage of several overnight trips including surfing, lobster fishing, white-rafting, and canoeing to name but a few.
The Island is also home to a brand new, NCAA regulation indoor basketball arena. We run clinics, skills sessions and tournaments all day and into the evening under the lights.
Our new gym offers the chance to learn or develop weight training skills alongside our qualified trainers. Morning cross-country runs build fitness and our speed & agility sessions increase overall athleticism in our campers.
The philosophy of the Island revolves around community. It is about all of us. Our oldest boys lead the way for our younger campers and are true ‘Big Brothers’.
Island campers visit the Mainland for an all-camp BBQ once a week, they visit their little brothers on Sundays and also run evening activities for the younger boys frequently.
There is truly no better place than The Island for a teenager to spend his summer!
A CULTURE OF SAFETY
We are parents too. We don’t take safety for granted.
No matter your son’s age or current ability, every boy is exposed to a wide range of athletic programming focused on developing skills. Experienced coaches look to build your son’s confidence and self-esteem while role-modeling sportsmanship, exemplary communication and leadership skills.
Team Sports
Basketball
Winaukee has incredible basketball facilities, including two indoor arenas, outdoor courts, and a smaller court for our little ballers to hone their skills. We run clinics, have intra-camp competitions, and host tournaments every week!
Soccer
Soccer instruction takes place on our brand new soccer field. Boys are put through their paces by collegiate players and coaches with a focus on individual ball skills so every camper feels comfortable with the ball at their feet. Shooting, passing, dribbling and goalkeeping clinics are available so no matter what part of the ‘beautiful game’ needs work, you can get it at Winaukee.
Baseball
With three baseball fields, former professional players on staff, hitting cages, and a progressive program, your batting average will soar at Winaukee this summer! We offer instruction in hitting, pitching, catching, fielding and also ensure our campers know the correct way to warm their arm up to make sure they stay injury free.
Football
Winaukee’s flag football program introduces the game to boys of all ages and abilities. Our experienced coaches work with boys on all positions, focusing on different skills as they go. With sessions covering quarterback, running back, wide receiver and defensive positions, boys will develop their abilities no matter what their positional preference might be.
Hockey
Our Ice Hockey program is designed for experienced hockey players of all ages. We have exclusive use of the brand new ice skating rink at nearby Plymouth State University. Campers participate in stick and puck drills on the ice twice a week, along with scrimmages.
Winaukee’s Street Hockey program is something any boy can enjoy. With fewer skills to learn up front, it’s a camp favorite!
Lacrosse
We offer non-contact and full-contact Lacrosse programs. Boys can be a part of the Winaukee Lacrosse Warriors if they want to play in tournaments and inter-camp competitions. Beginners learn basic stick handling, passing and shooting skills, while more advanced players are introduced to offensive and defensive concepts and drills.
INDIVIDUAL SPORTS
Tennis
Winaukee runs a high-quality tennis program across 18 hard and clay courts. We offer clinics during elective periods, leagues, serving and volley lessons, private instruction and inter-camp tournaments.
Our Intensive Tennis program allows interested campers to pursue advanced tennis instruction.
Archery
Boys are naturally drawn to a sport like archery. It’s raw. It’s powerful, because the stakes are real. You’re holding a weapon. Counselors recognize this and are quick to put safety first. Your son will learn how to aim, to find his mark, and over time he may have the opportunity to participate in tournaments.
Golf
Using our on-campus driving range and partnerships with local golf courses we offer specialized instruction focusing on the fundamentals of the game all the while growing the love for the game. We also run a 3-day golf trip for our older campers who get to play some of the best courses in New Hampshire.
Gym
We run three programs out of our brand new gym.
Strength focuses on introducing the basics of weight training to our campers. Qualified and experienced trainers work with every camper to improve their performance.
Speed and Agility focuses on developing quick footwork and reflexes that are used in all sports.
Conditioning focuses on building the endurance of our campers primarily through running.
WATER SPORTS
Waterskiing
Waterskiing and wakeboarding are two of the most popular activities at camp. All of our ski boats are driven by lifeguards with extensive waterski experience. Nothing beats waterskiing on Lake Winnipesaukee!
Wakeskiing
Wakeskiing is a new sport that allows a camper to ‘surf’ the wake of the ski boat. Our brand new wakeski boat sits lower in the water to create a bigger wake and the camper does not use a rope, but rather uses the momentum of the wake to follow the boat!
Paddleboarding
Paddleboarding is extremely popular at Winaukee and is a great challenge in strength and balance! Starting in the shallow water, campers are introduced to the basics of paddleboarding and quickly become comfortable traversing around the Island campus!
OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
Winaukee provides a robust and progressive outdoor adventure program. Sitting in the White Mountains of New Hampshire we want each of our campers to experience the natural beauty of the area and the benefits of spending time with friends in this environment.
Fire!
Boys naturally love building fires and setting up shelters in the woods. Fun skills like these provide an introduction to our Outdoor Adventure program.
Hiking, Rafting, Canoeing, & Camping
Our youngest campers are introduced to short half-day hikes and some of the cool natural features of the White Mountains like the Polar Caves and Diana’s Baths. By the time your son is 12 he will hike Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeastern United States.
Once on the Island, our boys go white-water rafting, take a two day canoe trip and camp overnight.
Exposure and time spent in nature with friends is a powerful experience that bonds people together and truly creates lifelong memories.
Summer Camp Is More
There’s a lot more to the camp experience beyond sports and daily activities! Specialized programming, evening activities, special events, trips, socials, and sibling visits round out the Winaukee program.
SPECIALIZED PROGRAMMING
Traditional camp activities such as woodworking, arts & crafts, theater and cooking have their place at Winaukee too! Campers can choose these activities as electives and are very popular!
EVENING ACTIVITIES & SPECIAL EVENTS
Evening activities include sports leagues, campfires, skits, talent shows and other traditional camp activities. Special events such as carnival, bowling, luau, s’mores parties, outdoor movies and lake excursions add variety to our days and nights.
A Few Words from Directors
Dan & Brooke McCormack
“The big markers in my upbringing were experiential rather than things. I vaguely remember when we got our first computer, but my memories of stuff are really vague compared to the experiences I had. I don’t remember a single pair of sneakers or item of clothing.”
“I played a ton of sports, eventually getting to a high level, and this shaped my identity, provided me with opportunities, and was the basis for my strongest friendships.” - Dan
Kids Learn from Doing Things
Winaukee exists to provide a wide scope of experiences and meaningful relationships through sports and adventure, within a traditional camp setting.
That describes how we build boys up, but there’s more to it — we want boys to live happy lives. Winaukee exists to provide life-changing experiences that shape a boy into a man, and direct the path his life will follow.
Winaukee Values
Sportsmanship is about character and making the right choices on and off the field
Spirit is boys enjoying the experience of camp with a mindset of gratitude and never wasting a second!
Brotherhood is boys developing meaningful personal relationships with other campers and our incredible staff
Community is treating everyone with the same level of respect, showing humility, and recognizing everyone’s contribution to the greater good
Camp Winaukee is more than a sum of its parts — the activities, the program, the counselors, the leadership — together we are creating life changing experiences for boys because we want them to lead happy lives.
In a world where more and more kids are wrestling with intense academic pressure, technology addiction, social anxiety, or just the lack of time to be kids, Winaukee is taking a stand.
