Programs

Robindel is primarily a seven-week camp program. We believe that the full summer experience allows for the most learning and growth, with time for relationships to really develop. Our highly structured program is designed to give campers a well-rounded camping experience and exposure to many activities.

Camp is divided into three divisions: Juniors (1st through 5th graders), Inters (6th & 7th graders), Seniors (8th through 11th graders). Each group has one or two Unit Leaders who act as liaisons between campers, staff and parents. Unit Leaders truly get to know each of their campers, spending time with them both in the cabin and at activities. Our low staff to camper ratio allows us to understand and tend to the individual needs of each camper.

All Junior campers as well as new campers of any age are assigned between two and four older camp sisters. This relationship is established in the spring and is often based on geographic locations. Older camp sisters are encouraged to meet their younger sisters in person if possible. Younger sisters enjoy learning more about camp from their older camp sisters, and they often travel to camp together.

Activities Teachers

Our program is structured to allow all campers to participate in a variety of activities each day, including electives. Campers have the opportunity to learn new skills, build upon old skills, and have fun.

Electives provide campers with a chance to explore new passions, gain more confidence in skills learned during bunk activities, and practice as a team for inter-camps (friendly sports competitions against nearby camps).

Junior campers elect their 6th period activity daily, Intermediate campers elect their 3rd and 6th period activities daily, and Senior campers receive personalized weekly schedules based on their choices (certain activities including tennis, swim and fitness are scheduled as a cabin, even in senior camp).

Archery

Part of the “ROAR” (Ropes & Archery) department, Archery has quickly become a popular activity. Certified staff instruct our archery program in which campers of all levels have the opportunity to participate in archery competitions with other camps in the area.

Gymnastics

Robindel’s well-rounded and high-energy gymnastics program builds flexibility, strength and self-confidence. Our gymnastics coaches teach and spot girls of all levels on the spring floor, beam, bars and vault. All campers are encouraged to participate in our end of summer Gym Show as well as friendly competitions with other camps. For those campers who are passionate about gymnastics, elective periods are a great time to get one-on-one coaching.

Fitness

The Robindel fitness program is all about keeping active, learning proper techniques and having fun. Fitness includes Zumba, yoga, step, cardio and sports conditioning. All campers have the opportunity to participate in the fitness program and many of our older girls attend daily classes. During Sunday evening campfire, the whole camp often gets up to dance to the music with moves from Zumba class!

Tennis

“We luv ya, we luv ya, we luv ya” says Buffalo Bob, head of our tennis program since 1992. Our expert tennis staff come from universities and tennis programs worldwide. All campers have regularly scheduled tennis instruction in small group lessons. Campers with a passion for tennis can also choose tennis as their elective, participate in the in-camp tennis ladder, and play in tennis inter-camps. We also offer pickle ball!

Private lessons are also available during rest hour. Please let us know if this is of interest to you.

Landsports

As our largest program area at Robindel, campers have plenty of opportunity to receive expert instruction in a variety of sports. Whether a beginner or advanced player, each camper has the chance to learn individual skills, be a part of a team, and have a blast doing it! We have weekly inter-camp competitions with other camps in the area, providing many chances to play as a team with lots of Robindel spirit.

Landsports include:

Basketball, Field Hockey,  Golf (with opportunities to play at a local course),  Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Volleyball

Campers who are training for a team at home may choose any of these sports as an elective to receive more intense fitness training, drills and scrimmage play. We also offer specific sports training & conditioning for those interested.

Arts & Crafts

Our extensive art program is housed in a 3-story building known as the “Art Barn.” Campers have the chance to explore a variety of art mediums including ceramics, painting, drawing, jewelry, print-making, sewing, stained glass, tie-dye, photography, candle making, beads and MORE!

Dance

Our fun dance program focuses mostly on jazz and hip-hop styles. Campers learn dance moves and routines that they have the chance to show off in our “Rockin Robindel” show, as well as at the ever popular Dance-Off inter-camps. Each summer the Robindel Dance Off features over 200 dancers from around New Hampshire and Maine! Dance is a part of our Performing Arts department, which includes Theatre, Music & Dance.

Music

Started in 2018, our music program was quick to gain popularity among campers of all ages. We have ukeleles, guitars, drums and keyboards as well as opportunities to write lyrics and play songs with friends. Campers can demonstrate their newly learned music skills at campfire and at our “Rockin Robindel” show at the end of the summer.

Theatre

Our theatre program at Robindel encourages girls of all ages and abilities to participate in theatre productions, whether on stage or behind the scenes. Campers learn about acting, singing, scenery and working together to put on two productions for the whole camp to enjoy.

Swim

Our goals at swim are to teach proper swimming techniques and a love for the water. Instructional swim is provided for all campers during bunk swim activity periods, and girls may choose between free swim and instructional swim during elective periods. We have three giant inflatables water toys, which are a favorite during free swim time!

All swim staff are WSI trained and American Red Cross Lifeguards.

Our oldest campers have the opportunity to earn their American Red Cross Lifeguard certification. Many girls who choose to participate in this course go on to earn lifeguarding jobs after their final summer at Robindel.

Ski

Our exciting ski program is a favorite of many campers! Three state of the art ski boats and a qualified staff of expert instructors are ready to teach water skiing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, wakesurfing and trick skiing. Campers look forward to tubing as the sun sets over the lake when they have ski as their evening activity.

Robindel is located in a protected cove of Lake Winnipesaukee, perfect for flat water skiing any time of the day. We are a USA Water Ski Affiliated Camp.

Water Crafts

Our location in a protected cove of Lake Winnipesaukee is an ideal setting to learn and practice water craft skills from paddle boarding, kayaking & canoeing to sailing and windsurfing. Campers learn proper technique and water safety skills that allow them to truly enjoy the lake. Girls of all ages may work towards a skipper certification, allowing them to sail on their own (of course, we always have our motorized chase boats nearby).

Nature

Our nature program at Robindel is educational, modern, hands-on and fun. Girls have the chance to pick fresh produce from a local farm, tend to the Robindel Garden, make natural cosmetics, explore the environment around camp and even milk cows. We offer optional weekly trips to local farms, nature & science centers and trails.

Outdoor Adventure

Our location in the White Mountains is the perfect setting for exploring the outdoors and discovering the excitement of camping. Outdoor Adventure is filled with fun and adventure while teaching about leadership, responsibility, respecting the outdoors and cooperative living.

All campers have the opportunity to participate in at least one overnight camping trip – Junior campers go on one trip as a cabin, Inter campers have two optional trips to choose from and Senior campers go on multi-day trips to the Maine Coast as well as white water rafting on the Kennebec River. Many girls’ fondest memories come from these trips, roasting marshmallows around the campfire while chatting with new and old friends. Our “Adventurers Club” offers weekly hiking trips to campers of any age who wish to participate.

Our oldest campers also have the opportunity hike Mt. Washington (the highest Northeast peak) and spend the night atop the mountain.

Riding

Our English-style equestrian program is offered as an optional activity. Campers can choose the regular (twice per week) or intensive (four times per week) riding program which both provide personal attention to campers of all abilities. We select our horses carefully based on the riding level of the campers, which leads to happier horses, campers and staff. Riders have the opportunity to display their skills in our end-of-summer riding show, as well as at riding inter-camps.

Ropes

Our well-rounded ropes program is very popular at camp. Operating under the “challenge by choice” philosophy, we encourage campers to work towards individual goals with the support of other campers and staff. We focus on team-building, goal setting and cooperation. We have an extensive adventure course as well as a climbing wall with 4 routes and a chimney. Campers who are passionate about rock climbing may sign up to go on a rock climbing trip in the White Mountains.

Our unique high ropes course includes a brand new 3-level adventure course with 15 elements as well as a Giant Swing right next to the lake and the one-and-only “Aqua-Zip” – a zip line right into Lake Winnipesaukee!

Welcome to Camp Robindel, a premiere summer camp for girls since 1951. We are located on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. Here at Robindel we are dedicated to the well-being and happiness of campers and staff. We view camp as a small community in which each person is valued. While we run an athletically oriented program, our main desire at Robindel is to teach skills to children so that they may improve at their own pace, develop self worth and learn to enjoy the use of these skills. We believe in a healthy form of competition that encourages participation by all, promotes good sportsmanship and provides opportunities for girls to challenge themselves and grow. We feel strongly that the camp setting surrounded by nature, compassionate people, and camp spirit, provides an ideal place for children to make friends and develop lifelong skills. Generations of young women have spent their summers at Robindel, an exciting and beautiful place to call a second home. We are honored to be chosen as one of the “Best Summer Camps For Kids” by DuJour Magazine as well as one of “This Summer’s 22 Most Amazing Sleepaway Camps in the U.S.”

Meet Our Director
Ann and Nat Greenfield have been the owners and directors of Camp Robindel since 1977. Camping runs deep in each of their families, and is what drew them to one another. They are members of The American Camp Association’s Pioneers of Camping Club, which recognizes directors who have been in camping for at least 30 years.

Ann is a mother and an educator who taught in both public and private schools. She was a camper and counselor for many years and went on to be the president of Golden Slipper Women, a Philadelphia philanthropic camping organization. She has two advanced degrees: An M.S. in Educational Media from the Annenberg School of Media & Communication at Temple University and an M.S. in Reading from Arcadia University (Beaver College) in Glenside, Pennsylvania.

Nat spent 18 consecutive summers as a camper and counselor. He is a non-practicing attorney, having always known that his real passion lie in camping. He earned a B.S. in Accounting from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from Penn Law at The University of Pennsylvania.

Ann and Nat combine to fill the role of head counselor. Ann is involved with all campers on a daily basis and is there to nurture and support them. Nat is famous for his “Nat Chats” with campers who love to stop by the office to say hello. When campers visit Robindel after their final summer, their first stop is often the couch in Nat’s office. Nat also oversees the management of the staff and daily program.

Our Staff
We take pride in our staff here at Robindel. The majority of our staff come back year after year. Each June we host a dinner for returning staff and we are amazed and grateful when we look around the room filled with so many people who bring passion, excitement and dedication to Robindel. We are also proud of our returning campers who choose to come back to Robindel as counselors, eager to share their Robindel spirit.

Facility and Location
Our 1550 feet of Lake Winnipesaukee shoreline are visible from all over camp. The 75 acre Robindel property has no hills and all cabins and facilities are in close proximity, creating a tight-knit community. We have breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and beautiful sunsets over the lake.

Cabins: Each cabin has separate living areas for campers and staff. All cabins have electricity, bathrooms, hot water showers, and screened windows.

History

Many of our buildings were part of Robinson’s Lodge, a small resort that prospered in the 1940s. In 1951, the Robinsons joined with Paddy & Adele Feldman to start Camp Robindel for Girls. Prior to the summer of 1977, Ann & Nat Greenfield purchased Robindel and they have remained the owners and directors since.

While Robindel has evolved through the years, keeping up with the needs and interests of our campers and maintaining our facilities, important traditions are deeply rooted at camp. Traditional camp songs are still sung during meals or at Sunday Campfire, many Sunday Blue & White games remain unchanged, campers look forward to Apaches, The Sing, Track Meet, Goldrush, Tuesday cookouts, Friday Shabbat dinner, and the ceremonial tree planting by the oldest campers. Whatever the event, girls old and young share the Robindel traditional experience.

In 2019, alumna Nancy Blum Wasserman who began attending Camp Robindel in 1954, recreated the music for the original CR alma mater song (written by Marsha Mosley) so that it will never be forgotten. She worked with a pianist to write the music and recorded herself singing it. We are so grateful for this gift from Nancy which can be heard below. It is easy to imagine the emotion of all of the campers and staff singing this in their final days of summer.
